About Diamond GirlsI met Arleene Johnson Noga in 1999 when she accompanied Team Saskatchewan to the first ever Peewee Girls National Softball Championship in Winnipeg. My daughter Robin, then thirteen, was playing first base with the team. A few months later, Arleene spoke at a ladies luncheon in Lampman and told us about her experiences in the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League from 1945-48. As a writer, I deeply regret not seizing the opportunity then presented to approach Arleene and other Saskatchewan players to learn more about their days in the Glamour League. It wasn't until I saw an article in the Leader Post in August 2015 about a special ceremony at Central Park honouring Mary George Baker that I realized there was a really good story here, a story worth telling on stage.
